Serial Planes Foam Board Reflection

Overall I enjoyed this project more than the book project.  Mainly because it was more flexible to work with.  I could work in any way I wanted without having to worry about restrictions.  In this project I wanted to work with spirals so I decided to do a spiral tower.  I am happy with the way it turned out but I had problems making it stand up straight.
From the flat piece of foam board I cut it in half and began doing small slits in the strip to make it curve.  In the beginning I had a hard time making it curve but this method ended up being better.  As I built the spiral I didn’t think about what would make it stand so I had to use a small strip to hold it up.  Looking at the final piece I noticed that there were a few things I could of improved to make it more successful.
After the critique I received a lot of good advice on how I could make the piece stand stronger and also a few tips I could use to make a better base for it.  I learned that there is more to just making something three dimensional, you have to have an understanding on how the structure of the figure will be.  Every three dimensional piece has some form of structure that make it 3d.
In conclusion I enjoyed doing this project and I am proud of it despite its few technical flaws.   I learned a lot about how structure is important and about all the different things one has to consider.

Serial Planes Book Reflection

My concept for this book was to have some sort of symmetry, I felt that since the book was bonded by a spine and I could not split the book without taking it apart.   I did not want to cut the entire spine either so I decided to split them up by the pages.   I didn’t enjoy this project that much because there was not a lot of freedom in it.  There were a lot of boundaries that the book had I was unfamiliar working with.
Overall I think I did halve as good as I could have done.  I thought that the front part of the book was very abstract, everyone saw something different in it and it eliminated the book aspect of it.  While approaching the back part of it I was at a block, there was not a lot I could do to it but after the critique I found a few ways I can make it contrast with the front.
I learned a lot during the critique and I learned a better understanding on how books are in general and how I can alter them by observing serial planes.  If I were to do this project again I have a better understanding on how I can alter it.  I have to work better with my shaky hands and aim at making my work neater and more professional.
