Serial Planes Foam Board Reflection
Overall I enjoyed this project more than the book project. Mainly because it was more flexible to work with. I could work in any way I wanted without having to worry about restrictions. In this project I wanted to work with spirals so I decided to do a spiral tower. I am happy with the way it turned out but I had problems making it stand up straight.
From the flat piece of foam board I cut it in half and began doing small slits in the strip to make it curve. In the beginning I had a hard time making it curve but this method ended up being better. As I built the spiral I didn’t think about what would make it stand so I had to use a small strip to hold it up. Looking at the final piece I noticed that there were a few things I could of improved to make it more successful.
After the critique I received a lot of good advice on how I could make the piece stand stronger and also a few tips I could use to make a better base for it. I learned that there is more to just making something three dimensional, you have to have an understanding on how the structure of the figure will be. Every three dimensional piece has some form of structure that make it 3d.
In conclusion I enjoyed doing this project and I am proud of it despite its few technical flaws. I learned a lot about how structure is important and about all the different things one has to consider.
